Refusing a New Prescription that Has Been Filled

You can cancel a prescription after it has been filled if the patient does not want the prescription or you have made a mistake. For some mistakes, you can amend a prescription instead of cancelling it.

If refills have been filled for the prescription, you can only cancel the most recent refill. If you attempt to cancel the original prescription, you are prompted to cancel the most recent refill instead.

You can select a prescription to refuse:

From the Workbench

  1. Open a prescription in Rx Detail or select a prescription on the Workbench.
  2. Press the Refuse button. A dialogue box appears, asking if you want to remove the prescription from the patient's profile.

Note: Note If refills have been filled for the prescription, you are prompted to cancel the most recent refill. Press Yes to cancel the refill. The refill is placed on the Completed tab with a Status of Cancelled. If you press No, the refill is not cancelled.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • To completely remove the prescription, press the Yes button. The prescription is removed from the Workbench and from the patient's profile. If the prescription has unfilled refills, you are given the option to remove the refills as well. If a third party accepted the claim for the prescription, a reversal is sent to the third party.
    • To place the prescription on hold, press the No button. The prescription is placed on the Completed tab with a Status of Hold. The prescription is also kept in the patient's profile. If a third party accepted the claim for the prescription, a reversal is sent to the third party.
