Filling a Limited Use Prescription for ODB

An MR Code must be entered in Rx Detail in order to fill an Ontario Drug Benefit prescription for a Limited Use drug. If you attempt to fill either a DB (Ontario Drug Benefit) or a TR (Trillium) Limited Use prescription without entered an MR Code, you will be prompted to enter the code; the prescription cannot be filled until a code is entered.

The intervention code LU (Start New LU Authorization) must be submitted with limited use prescriptions for which a patient has received a NEW Limited Use form.

  1. Process the prescription as usual until you reach Rx Detail.
  2. Enter the basic prescription information in the main tab of Rx Detail (QA, Qty, SIG, DS, etc...).
  3. Press the Extended tab.
  4. Enter the medical reason for use code in the MR Code field.

Note: You can view definitions for the drug's MR codes, as well as print a letter for the doctor. Press the magnifying glass icon (located to the right of the MR Code field) to open the Medical Reason for Use Codes window. Highlight the appropriate code. Press the OK button. The screen closes and the highlighted code appears in the MR Code field.

  1. The Special Auth Date field either defaults to 364 days in the future, or is defaulted from the Special Auth DINs preferences in the Patient folder. Modify this date if required.
  2. The intervention code LU is defaulted the FIRST time a MR Code is EVER added to a prescription.

Note: The LU intervention code must ONLY be submitted with limited use prescriptions for which a patient has received a NEW Limited Use form. The LU intervention code updates the Authorization Start Date at ODB, therefore it is CRITICAL that the LU only be submitted when a new Limited Use form is received and NOT for every refill of a limited use prescription. Remove the LU intervention code if it should not be submitted with the claim.

  1. Continue to fill the prescription as usual.

The printed label set indicates NFB on the File Copy.
